In an art studio turned bomb shelter...
Thrown together by chaos and chance are a small group of Muslims and Christians, waiting out the NATO bombardment of Belgrade. Within the confines of a crowded basement a millenium of history, animosity, and misunderstanding are exposed. Though there remains much unresolved, these characters learn what binds them together is stronger that what pulls them apart. And the true agent of discord, a dictator with arms seized around the throat of the people, must be defeated to bring peace.
Trailer for the play:
I am yugoslav and american,
and in 1999 I watched one country bomb the other, while my family was still living within a besieged city. Radical Love is not only based on a true story-- it's my chance, as a journalist, to show the truth of a story never told in America. My story fuses dramatic elements of a traditional play and the historical reporting of a documentary.
Director Prodan Dimov and I incorporated multimedia to develop a unique storytelling style and peel back the layers of the complexity of ethnic strife in my homeland. But there is still much left to reveal-- personal stories to bring to light and lasting consequences to develop. The next step in the storytelling process is the Radical Love film.
